How 11+ preparation works here
Tell us where their practice papers land
The 11+ has no national grade scale, so we do not ask for a grade. We ask whether your child's practice papers are coming out above the pass mark, around it, or below it, and which parts of the paper are losing them marks.
We find the tutor
We put your child's session to the tutors who prepare children for the 11+ and are free at that time. You see the tutor's profile, including every clearance we hold for them, before you agree to anything.
Set a weekly slot that ends when the exam does
Book the same time each week, fortnight or month, with an end date you choose, so the run up to the test is one booking rather than twenty. If your tutor cannot make a particular week we skip that week and tell you, rather than moving a ten-year-old's lesson to a time you did not choose.
They practise, and you can watch it back
Your child joins in the browser with nothing to install. The tutor can share their screen, so a question from your practice papers is in front of both of them, and they work it through on the same whiteboard. Whatever is on the board at the end is saved, and the lesson is recorded for you to watch.
The papers, in plain English
What the 11+ asks of your child
The exam is set locally, so the format differs from one area to the next. These are the parts most tests draw on, and the two things that decide whether a child who knows the material actually scores.
Verbal reasoning
Word codes, letter sequences, analogies, hidden words, and short logic problems. Much of it is pattern recognition: recognising which kind of question you are looking at is half of answering it quickly.
Non-verbal reasoning
Sequences of shapes, rotations and reflections, odd-one-out, and folding or stacking problems. None of it is part of the primary curriculum, so a child can be doing well at school and never have met a question like it.
English
Comprehension of a passage your child has not seen, plus vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar. Vocabulary is built by reading over years rather than revised in a term, which is worth knowing when you plan the year.
Maths
Arithmetic done at speed, fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio, shape and measure, and multi-step word problems. Some of it sits ahead of where the primary curriculum has reached by the time the test is sat.
A writing task, in some areas
Some tests include a piece of continuous writing, sometimes as a second-stage paper. Whether yours does is a question for the schools you are applying to, and worth asking before you plan the year.
Working to the clock
These papers are timed, and a child who can answer every question can still run out of paper. Working under a clock, deciding what to leave, and checking without re-reading everything are all things a tutor can practise with them.
Your child is ten, and the tutor is a stranger.
One-to-one tuition means an adult your family has never met spending an hour alone on video with a primary-age child. That is the problem this platform was built around, and it is why the vetting is not a page in the small print.

Every tutor on the platform holds an enhanced DBS check. We do not make exceptions and we do not allow grace periods.
Interviewed before they teach
Our school staffing team interviews every tutor before they take a single session. They are the same people who vet and place staff in UK schools.
Every session recorded
Sessions are recorded and retained for safeguarding review, so there is always a record of what happened in a lesson. You can watch your own child's sessions back from your account. The tutor cannot.
Continuously monitored
Vetting is not a one-off. If a tutor's clearance lapses they come off the platform automatically, and they cannot teach again until it is back in place and verified by us.
Nothing happens off the platform
Every session runs in our own video room in the browser, and personal contact details are never exchanged between a tutor and a family.
